Truly upsetting facts about Bible literacy and a reminder that Bible805 can help

2026-06-23 by bible805

My purpose in Bible805 is to help you know, trust, apply, and teach the Bible.

I know personally from many years of teaching how little many people in our world today know nothing about the Bible, but even then, though I deal with this all the time, I was shocked with the results of these studies that were done last year in 2025. The two studies that both measured current Bible literacy in the U.S. are:

A 2025 study by the National Bible Literacy Project

The 2025 State of the Bible by the American Bible Society

Below I’ll share 6 facts from the studies and then a few closing comments. You can either listen to them, or read them below the podcast.

Current Bible Literacy Fact # 1. American Teens Show “Dramatic Decline” in Bible Literacy

Why you might have a tough time teaching the Bible today and how Bible805 can help

2026-06-23 by Yvon Prehn

I’m full of disclaimers and caveats, and I know that there are exceptions to everything I say that follows. I acknowledge there are many ways to teach and disciple, but the Bible805 content-intensive system of teaching is what’s worked for me for many years, and it has resulted in significant spiritual growth in people that have taken my Bible classes.

To explain how I’ve come up with the methods I use in Bible 805 to enable you to know, trust, apply, and teach the Bible, we’re going to look at two apostles: Peter and Paul, the radically different audiences they faced, and how they used different methods to reach them.

We’ll then look at similar situations that occur in our world, and I’ll share how I put together the Bible805 foundation for Bible teaching, which I’ve summarized into 7 Observations:

First is a podcast of the material and then the script for it:

Clarifying the purpose of Bible805 and its part in the Great Conversation

2026-06-18 by bible805

The Great Conversation is my term for the combined teachings of all followers of Jesus as we attempt to share Him with our world. I believe it’s important to clarify the place of Bible805 in all the other options you have for learning the Bible, for those of you using my resources so there are no unrealistic expectations.

To do that, I’ll first clarify what I mean by the Great Conversation and then what I believe is my part and the part of Bible805 in it. Below is the podcast and then the text of it.

The importance of understanding the Great Conversation

There are NO advertising or Affiliate links on this website and here’s why (this is very important)

2026-05-23 by bible805

Please note, this is a reprint from my previous ministry Effective Church Communications, but the opinions here are the same for this site and my ministries, on the www.effectivechurchcom.com site, there were more considerations as the possible recommendations were larger, but this content is updated for Bible805.

It is important to clarify the stand of Bible805 (and previously of my ministry Effective Church Communications) on recommendations, advertising, and affiliate marketing, in part because my position in these areas is very different from most websites, including Christian ones. Please know I am not judging the practices and motives of other sites by what follows. We all serve the same Lord, and He has many ways to work and we are all accountable to our Lord for our decisions.

That being said, though there are many ways to interact with vendors and ministries, the following is what I feel the Lord wants for my ministries, and here is the summary statement.

Bible805 and all associated ministries, past and present does not take any paid advertising, nor do I swap advertising, take free products for review, or take part in any affiliate programs. The only items advertised and sold on our sites are those I produce, and at present, the only ones I sell are books by me, Yvon Prehn. Any recommendations given or lists of or links to useful resources are totally at my discretion, based on what I’ve found personally useful, and may be modified or removed at any time.

To clarify and expand this position please read the following materials. [Read more…]

All about A.I. and how YOU can make a difference in how it responds

2026-03-21 by bible805

AI IN MINISTRY

A.I. is not a dark force to be afraid of, it is a tool and like any other tool, it can be used to help or to hurt.

But it is very different in one way that is incredibly important for anyone in ministry and that is for you to understand that YOU can make a difference, a BIG difference to the content served up by A.I on the web.

Please bear with me for a few minutes while I explain this because if you understand what I’m saying and will encourage you to do, it can make a huge difference in the lives of untold multitudes around the world now and into the future.

I am not exaggerating.

First of all, a very quick and extremely brief review of how A.I. works.

A.I. is not original; the answers it provides in whatever form are based on what it has learned from the collective wisdom of what it has found online. [Read more…]

Practical Ministry tips, tools, strategy, resources, and challenges for Bible teachers and ministry leaders

2026-03-09 by bible805

Ministry Miscellany Podcast
A collection of tools, strategies, and challenges for Bible teachers. The Ministry Miscellany Podcast goes along with this content.

I praise God that, though a few detours have taken place, the primary activities of my life have been teaching the Bible, involvement with my church, and Christian ministries. I am incredibly, humbly, and joyfully grateful for the life and many, many ministry experiences the Lord has given me, and though I hope the Lord gives me many more years to serve Him (my grandmother taught Sunday School class into her 90s), I have already been at this long enough that I have some suggestions that might be helpful, some ministry advice that might be encouraging, and some resources that I’ve found helpful.

I feel the Lord wants me to pass them on. They are humbly offered with no claim of expertise or guarantee of success. Most is offered for free–only my personally authored books have a cost. Also, the Bible805 ministry takes no advertising, nor do I participate in any affiliate marketing schemes where I would get paid for promoting something. There are no hidden agendas for anything I tell you about.

This is a new section for the Bible805 ministry, and the Ministry Miscellany Podcast goes along with it.

I’ll post the availability of new material here and on the podcast and on the Bible805 Newsletter, CLICK HERE to sign up for it.

Practical Ministry–Lent, a powerful time for personal and corporate spiritual growth

2026-02-16 by bible805

Lent isn't just a time for monks, but for all
Lent isn’t just a time for monks, but for all of us to grow in our spiritual lives.

Observing Lent isn’t about a denomination, or whether your church is liturgical or not. Lent helps us to put the Christian life into a biblical perspective. It’s a time to practice saying “no” to ourselves in little things so we can say a bigger “yes” to God in the bigger decisions of life. It can truly be a time for significant spiritual growth for the individuals in your church as well the church as a whole.

Following is motivation for celebrating Lent and descriptions of resources, including free handouts and a Lenten Devotional and Journal. If you are in a hurry and don’t want to bother listening to all, go to www.Bible805.com and the resource links will all be on the home page.

Text and resources for Lenten resources follow. You can listen to a podcast of the content below or read the text that follows it. The Resource links are at the end of the article.
