Practical Ministry

Ministry Miscellany Podcast
A collection of tools, strategies, and challenges for Bible teachers.

A collection of tools, strategies, and challenges for Bible teachers. . . . . that sounds so stilted and I don't want it to be that.

The content in this podcast is basically me talking to you, giving you advise I've found to be helpful in bringing people to Jesus and helping them grow to Christian maturity.

Though all are based on the Bible, they are about ministry in general, and many them are related to holidays because that is one of the best times and ways to get people involved in ministry.

I praise God that, though a few detours have taken place, the primary activities of my life have been teaching the Bible, involvement with my church, lots of disciple-making and group building all around God's Word. I am incredibly, humbly, and joyfully grateful for the life and many, many ministry experiences the Lord has given me, and though I hope the Lord gives me many more years to serve Him (my grandmother taught Sunday School class into her 90s), I have already been at this long enough that I have some suggestions that might be helpful, some ministry advice that might be encouraging, and some resources that I've found helpful.

I feel the Lord wants me to pass them on. They are humbly offered with no claim of expertise or guarantee of success. Most is offered for free--only my personally authored books have a cost. Also, the Bible805 ministry takes no advertising, nor do I participate in any affiliate marketing schemes where I would get paid for promoting something. There are no hidden agendas for anything I tell you about.

This is a new section for the Bible805 ministry, and the Ministry Miscellany Podcast goes along with it.

A most important announcement—Bible805 is now a legal nonprofit ministry and part of the Christian Ministries Alliance!

2026-07-19 by bible805

For Bible805  to now be a legal, nonprofit ministry is an answer to many years of hard work and prayer. Please take time to read what follows for the background of it, all I’m doing now in it, and how you can help.

If you’d like to listen, I recorded it as a special edition of the Ministry Miscellany Podcast. Below is the audio recording–the rest of the blog continues after it:

In addition to live classes, for many years Yvon Prehn and Bible805 have created Bible-teaching materials, lessons, infographics, blogs, podcasts, and videos, and then made them all available for free (also editable and no attribution needed) to any church or ministry who wanted to use them anywhere around the world.

From Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, and China to all over the U.S., plus Canada, and so many other places, many have responded. I know I wouldn’t have received the response I have if I charged for the materials. They were created for churches in sometimes hidden places that had no resources, and without me advertising to any of them, it seems the Lord has honored it.

For those many years, the business my bi-vocational pastor husband and I had supported the Bible805 ministry and us. When the Lord suddenly took my husband home to heaven by an unexpected heart attack almost 2 years ago, I had to shut down the business, and I’ve lived on and supported the ministry from my savings. That is no longer possible.

I’ve worked very hard to make the Bible805 ministry a full-time, robust resource for both individuals to learn from and for anyone, any ministry, any church to be able to use, edit, repurpose the Bible lessons and related resources that I create. To see the results of my efforts, please check out the two videos here that are tours of the Bible805 website (www.Bible805.com), which has links to the lessons, podcasts, videos, and other resources and the Bible805 Academy (www.Bible805Academy.com) where you can see how churches can download, edit, modify and use them however they want to teach the Bible. These short videos will give you a good overview of what is available through the ministry.

Truly upsetting facts about Bible literacy and a reminder that Bible805 can help

2026-06-23 by bible805

My purpose in Bible805 is to help you know, trust, apply, and teach the Bible.

I know personally from many years of teaching how little many people in our world today know nothing about the Bible, but even then, though I deal with this all the time, I was shocked with the results of these studies that were done last year in 2025. The two studies that both measured current Bible literacy in the U.S. are:

A 2025 study by the National Bible Literacy Project

The 2025 State of the Bible by the American Bible Society

Below I’ll share 6 facts from the studies and then a few closing comments. You can either listen to them, or read them below the podcast.

Why you might have a tough time teaching the Bible today and how Bible805 can help

2026-06-23 by Yvon Prehn

I’m full of disclaimers and caveats, and I know that there are exceptions to everything I say that follows. I acknowledge there are many ways to teach and disciple, but the Bible805 content-intensive system of teaching is what’s worked for me for many years, and it has resulted in significant spiritual growth in people that have taken my Bible classes.

To explain how I’ve come up with the methods I use in Bible 805 to enable you to know, trust, apply, and teach the Bible, we’re going to look at two apostles: Peter and Paul, the radically different audiences they faced, and how they used different methods to reach them.

We’ll then look at similar situations that occur in our world, and I’ll share how I put together the Bible805 foundation for Bible teaching, which I’ve summarized into 7 Observations:

First is a podcast of the material and then the script for it:

Motivation to teach the foundational truths of the Christian life to your people

2026-06-14 by Yvon Prehn

I just finished teaching a series on Ancient Prophets, Modern Messages, and two passages stood out to and convicted me as a Bible teacher. They are:

Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.

Malachi 2:7-8 “For the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, because he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty and people seek instruction from his mouth. 8 But you have turned from the way and by your teaching have caused many to stumble;

We don’t need to go back to the Old Testament prophets to see evidence of what happens to the people of God when they aren’t taught the foundational truths of the Christian faith, when they are not grounded in God’s Word and are taught primarily to go it to feel better and be more positive about life.

That doesn’t last much beyond the last praise song.
