Why you might have a tough time teaching the Bible today and how Bible805 can help

2026-06-23 by Yvon Prehn

I’m full of disclaimers and caveats, and I know that there are exceptions to everything I say that follows. I acknowledge there are many ways to teach and disciple, but the Bible805 content-intensive system of teaching is what’s worked for me for many years, and it has resulted in significant spiritual growth in people that have taken my Bible classes.

To explain how I’ve come up with the methods I use in Bible 805 to enable you to know, trust, apply, and teach the Bible, we’re going to look at two apostles: Peter and Paul, the radically different audiences they faced, and how they used different methods to reach them.

We’ll then look at similar situations that occur in our world, and I’ll share how I put together the Bible805 foundation for Bible teaching, which I’ve summarized into 7 Observations:

First is a podcast of the material and then the script for it:

Motivation to teach the foundational truths of the Christian life to your people

2026-06-14 by Yvon Prehn

I just finished teaching a series on Ancient Prophets, Modern Messages, and two passages stood out to and convicted me as a Bible teacher. They are:

Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.

Malachi 2:7-8 “For the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, because he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty and people seek instruction from his mouth. 8 But you have turned from the way and by your teaching have caused many to stumble;

We don’t need to go back to the Old Testament prophets to see evidence of what happens to the people of God when they aren’t taught the foundational truths of the Christian faith, when they are not grounded in God’s Word and are taught primarily to go it to feel better and be more positive about life.

That doesn’t last much beyond the last praise song.

Wrapped up in love, three of the most important foundational truths for a realistic life with God

2026-06-14 by Yvon Prehn

Job_Rebuked_by_His_Friend
Check out the lessons on Answers to the Big Questions of Life, from Genesis and Job for answers to the tough challenges of life.

This post is from Answers to the Big Questions of Life from Genesis and Job, Part One

Key verse: “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much.” Job 38:4, TLB

One of the worst things in life is being deceived about something important—if we think someone loves us and we find out they don’t; if we think a job we love isn’t what thought it would be; if we find out we aren’t the person we thought we were—believing something important and then finding out we were wrong can be devastating.

That reality is vitally true with our relationship to God. We must believe the correct things about Him for our walk with Him to make sense and for us to make the right decisions in how we follow Him. Sadly, many of the teachings today, even in the church, focus on simply what will make us feel good and if God doesn’t make us feel good or do what we want Him to do, many get mad and walk away.

Our lesson series on Genesis and Job was created to help you gain a clearer picture of what to expect in your relationship with Him. The three foundational truths I’m about to share, if looked at alone, can appear harsh and even cruel at times. But it is important to remember that wrapped up in every hard concept of God, everything that is difficult to understand, or a trial we are given to endure, comes from a God who is, above all things LOVE. Prophets Amos and Micah, When Religion Isn’t Enough—Understanding Justice and How to Apply It

2026-05-09 by Yvon Prehn

Lesson on Amos and MicahThis lesson explores the ministries of the prophets Amos and Micah, who preached during a time of outward religious activity but deep moral and spiritual corruption.

Though the people continued religious ceremonies, they ignored justice, mercy, humility, and care for others–and in this we see reminders of our world today.

Amos warned the Northern Kingdom of Israel before its destruction, while Micah challenged the Southern Kingdom of Judah with similar messages. Both prophets reminded God’s people that true faith is not simply religious observance, but a transformed life reflecting God’s character through justice, mercy, and humility.

The lesson especially focuses on Micah 6:8 and the call to “act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.” We go into detail on the meanings of each of these terms in practical ways for our lives.

Following is the podcast, video, and below them a PDF copy of the Notes and Discussion Guide.

Jonah, about so much more than a fish

2026-05-09 by Yvon Prehn

Lesson On JonahThis lesson on Jonah reminds us that the story is about far more than a man swallowed by a fish. It is a true historical account, affirmed by Jesus, and filled with powerful lessons about obedience, mercy, and God’s heart for all people.

Jonah was not an unknown or struggling prophet—he was successful, respected, and accustomed to delivering good news to his own people. But when God called him to preach repentance to the brutal and hated Assyrians, Jonah refused. Instead of obeying, he ran in the opposite direction and through the storm, the great fish, and Jonah’s repentance, we see that disobedience never leads to a better outcome. God’s discipline is not meant to destroy us, but to bring us back to Him. When Jonah finally obeyed, the people of Nineveh repented, and God showed them mercy.

However, Jonah’s response reveals one of the most challenging truths in the lesson—he was angry at God’s compassion. He wanted mercy for himself but not for others. This exposes a common struggle in our own hearts.

The lesson concludes with three major applications: God’s mercy extends to even the worst people, we cannot assume who has or has not heard God’s message, and new believers need teaching and follow-up to grow in their faith. Ultimately, Jonah points us to Jesus, who perfectly obeyed God and completed the work He was given.
