Bible805 Podcast, Lessons and commentary to help you know, trust, apply and teach the Bible

Bible805 Podcast by Yvon Prehn
For Bible-teaching series that will help you know, trust, and apply the Bible, check this out. Approx. 30-minute lessons.

Description: In this podcast, my goal is to help you know, trust, apply, and teach the Bible. To do that, this podcast is primarily a collection of lesson series on a variety of Biblical and Bible-related topics. Its purpose is to provide in-depth studies, historical background, and challenging applications, but they are not heavy-duty, hard-to-understand theological lectures.

As one of my students said (and this has been a frequent comment on my teaching, “You make hard stuff easy.” The series on the Trinity has been particularly helpful to people in this way.

In the past, I used this podcast title to go through the Bible chronologically, and though the past episodes are available, the newer podcast on Thru the Bible, 2026, which follows, is much better for a year-long tour through the Bible.

Links to videos, notes, discussion guides, and related infographics are in the show notes of the podcasts and on www.Bible805.com, and materials that enable you to teach the lessons are available on www.Bible805Academy.com.

Life After Death, God’s gift or man’s wishful thinking? What the Old Testament has to say about it

2026-07-22 by bible805

This lesson demonstrates that the Old Testament consistently teaches the reality of life after death and bodily resurrection. Beginning with Job and continuing through Samuel, David, the Psalms, Isaiah, and Daniel, the lesson shows that God’s people looked forward to a real future with Him. Jesus affirmed these Scriptures when He corrected the Sadducees, and the lesson concludes that the hope of eternal life is a consistent message from Genesis to Revelation through God’s unchanging character and the saving work of Jesus Christ.

NOTE on this lesson: the Discussion Guide and particularly the application notes make this a very significant lesson for your church or small group. Do check it out for assurance for your people on this most important topic.

Genesis & Job, Answers to the Big Questions of Life, Part Two

2026-06-17 by bible805

Answers to the Big Questions of life PART TWO This lesson continues our study of the Big Questions of Life by examining answers found in Genesis and Job. We learn that God is our Creator and therefore the foundation for our purpose and meaning in life. We also gain a clearer understanding of Satan—his origin, limitations, and methods of deception. Finally, Job provides one of the Bible’s earliest and clearest affirmations of life after death and bodily resurrection, giving believers hope that extends beyond this life. Through Job’s experiences, we are reminded that God remains sovereign, even in suffering, and that our ultimate future is secure in Him.

Haggai and Zechariah, God Never Forgets Dreams or Promises

2026-06-04 by bible805

Haggai and Zechariah ministered after the Jewish people returned from the Babylonian exile. Although God had opened the way for them to rebuild the Temple, they became distracted by their own priorities and stopped the work. Haggai challenged them with practical obedience, while Zechariah encouraged them through visions that reminded them of God’s eternal purposes. Together, their messages teach that God keeps His promises, calls His people to faithful service, and asks them to live with both present obedience and future hope.

Hosea, When God Uses Your Life as a Lesson

2026-05-15 by bible805

Hosea, lesson, notes, links to videoThe book of Hosea reveals both the heartbreak and the faithful love of God. Through Hosea’s difficult marriage to Gomer, God gave Israel—and us—a living picture of His relationship with His people. Though Israel repeatedly turned away from Him, God continued to pursue them with love, discipline, mercy, and restoration. The lesson also reminds us that God may use our lives, especially difficult seasons, as testimonies to others of His faithfulness and sustaining grace.

Prophets Amos and Micah, When Religion Isn’t Enough—Understanding Justice and How to Apply It

2026-05-09 by Yvon Prehn

Lesson on Amos and MicahThis lesson explores the ministries of the prophets Amos and Micah, who preached during a time of outward religious activity but deep moral and spiritual corruption.

Though the people continued religious ceremonies, they ignored justice, mercy, humility, and care for others–and in this we see reminders of our world today.

Amos warned the Northern Kingdom of Israel before its destruction, while Micah challenged the Southern Kingdom of Judah with similar messages. Both prophets reminded God’s people that true faith is not simply religious observance, but a transformed life reflecting God’s character through justice, mercy, and humility.

The lesson especially focuses on Micah 6:8 and the call to “act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.” We go into detail on the meanings of each of these terms in practical ways for our lives.

Following is the podcast, video, and below them a PDF copy of the Notes and Discussion Guide.

Happy Corrections Series, Lesson 3: Because Life as a Christian Isn’t Always Easy

2026-04-25 by bible805

This lesson addresses a common misunderstanding in the Christian life: the expectation that following Jesus should result in an easier, trouble-free life. In reality, the Bible teaches that trials are not only inevitable but also purposeful. Our surprise at difficulties often comes from incorrect views of salvation and a lack of understanding of what the Bible teaches about suffering.

True salvation is not simply a one-time decision that guarantees comfort, but the beginning of a life of discipleship. As we grow in that discipleship, God uses trials as a primary tool to shape our character, deepen our faith, and align our lives with His purposes.

The lesson outlines seven key ways God uses trials: He is present in them, uses them for spiritual growth, works through them to help others, teaches us true hope, develops thankfulness, reveals truth about Himself, and refocuses our lives on eternity. Trials are not meaningless interruptions, but part of God’s intentional work in our lives.

Ultimately, this lesson challenges us to shift our perspective—from avoiding trials to understanding and responding to them in ways that honor God. Even when we do not feel strong, we are called to trust Him, obey Him, and continue forward in faith.
