How to Fit the Bible Into a Busy Life, and how to get the most out of it
This video summarizes several longer ones on the importance of reading the Bible in Chronological order.
It’s a useful motivational one to prepare people for reading through the Bible in Chronological Order in the coming year. I created this one for a business group and they liked it. It’s a little less serious than the ones I do for church audiences and I tried not to make assumptions that people knew what I was talking about in this. [Read more…]
Whiner, Worker, Witness or Wonder Lessons learned from Ezekiel and Daniel
The setting for this lesson is that—time has run out. After hundreds of years of warnings and challenges, it’s over for Judah.
Daniel and Ezekiel are in Babylon taken there in an early deportation before the end came in Jerusalem. What seemed horrible to them at the time was a great blessing in disguise— they were kept from the horrors of the siege, the total destruction of Jerusalem, and final deportation. Getting to know the Bible is a foundational task of a disciple of Jesus. [Read more…]

This type of writing is what is known as “apocalyptic” and it’s useful to take some time to understand this type of writing, this genre in the Bible to understand the books that contain it. Infographic of the last five kings of Judah, Josiah to the captivitythat makes sense!
I have always had a hard time figuring out the final years of the Southern Kingdom of Israel before it went into captivity, especially figuring out who was king and when.
It doesn’t help at all that one of the major books about the time, Jeremiah isn’t in order in how he relates God’s judgment—he jumps back and forth between various kings and with their similar names, Jehoiakim, Jehoiakim, and Jehoahaz, plus their father/grandfather Josiah—I got confused.
