The promise of Life After Death—discover the assurance of it throughout the Old Testament
The Apostle Paul said that “If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. (1 Cor.15:19)”
The belief in a life after death, a full, bodily resurrection to eternal LIFE and not simply some shadowy existence wandering as a disembodied spirit—that is a foundational promise of the Christian life.
Though most would agree with that statement, a true biblical understanding of life after death is a bit fuzzy to some believers. After encountering the idea that life after death wasn’t clear to people who trusted God in the Old Testament in both some Christian writing and then from some people I respected in other areas of their teaching, I was quite upset, because I believe that uncertainty can cause great pain to many.
I was upset also because, though I do believe in Progressive Revelation, where God reveals His truths more and more fully over time, I also believe that for the core issues, God has been very clear and the clear teaching of life after death, of full bodily resurrection is certainly core to Bible teaching. To resolve the conflict in my mind and heart, I did as I always do, a deep dive into what the Bible actually says about it and this lesson is the result.
I do hope you’ll listen to or watch it all, but to give away the ending—the belief and CLEAR biblical teaching of life after death and full bodily resurrection is clearly taught from the earliest book of the Bible and continuing through the Old Testament. Understanding this clearly is a reason for joy and hope. Be encouraged yourself and share it with your people.
