In the Bible class I teach one of the members asked me about so-called, “prophets” today. A friend invited her to a prophetic meeting, and she went but did not feel comfortable with the words the prophet pronounced over her, nor did the rest of her family. [Read more…]

Is God fair? what properly dating the Old Testament prophecy has to say about it and how it applies to us
Introductory note from Yvon: I created this infographic to go along with the lesson, The Fall of Israel, How Falling is Never Final with Our God. A key part of that lesson is the importance of the proper dating of when God gave the children of Israel His laws and the repeated warnings of the prophets before judgment came. [Read more…]

The imperative of application whenever we read or listen to God’s Word
In many ways, the most important of the four goals of Bible805 (for you to know, trust, apply and teach the Bible) is for you to APPLY the Bible. Though application comes last in our progression of how first we need to KNOW what it says, then TRUST it is God’s Word, and finally to APPLY it, without application, knowledge and trust alone do little to change our lives and serve as a witness to our world. If we aren’t applying it, we certainly cannot teach it with integrity. [Read more…]
A Bible class member wondered why is the story of Abraham, a man who traded his wife for wealth and protection considered a great man in the Bible?—here’s the answer
Before I share these lessons with you online I teach them to an adult Bible class at my church. Some of the class members are relatively new to following Jesus and have never read through the Bible before. I encourage questions as I teach, and we have discussion following the presentation. I’ve found their questions and comments absolutely invaluable as they help me see things in a new light. [Read more…]

Focus on the things that matter and not “the multitude of trifling things”
Though this quote comes from a secular, self-help site, it is an incredibly important truth to keep in mind as we all try to grow in our Christian discipleship. A.W. Tozer expressed a similar thought in this way: [Read more…]
Halloween as a time for evangelism—please consider it with the Apostle Paul as our inspiration
When the Apostle Paul went to Athens it says he was “very distressed” (Acts 17:16) at the pagan idols he found in the city. That’s not surprising. What is surprising is that a few days later he is asked to speak before their council and when he does, here is how the Bible describes it: [Read more…]
“Haven’t you read?” A good reminder of what to do, when we don’t know if something is wrong or not
A thought from my daily Bible reading
How do you respond to people who think you are doing something wrong, even if you feel like it is perfectly OK to it?
Especially if that person or persons are in a position of authority or leadership, it can be challenging if you are condemned for doing what you feel is right to do. [Read more…]
