Thru the Bible, Lesson #10 Deuteronomy, Where rules become joyful reality in our lives

2026-04-04 by bible805

Deuteronomy lessonThis lesson from Deuteronomy addresses a central question: how should God’s people live as they enter a new season, surrounded by a culture that does not follow Him? After forty years of wandering, Israel stands ready to enter the Promised Land. Deuteronomy gathers and applies what God has already revealed, showing that His commands are not burdensome but are given for their good, leading to a life of joy, purpose, and blessing.

The lesson highlights three key areas: how we love, how we give, and how we define ourselves. God’s love is the foundation—He loves first, and His people are called to reflect that love to others, especially those in need. Giving is presented not as a duty alone, but as a joyful, generous lifestyle that supports worship, celebration, and care for others. Finally, identity is not merely individual but corporate—we are a people, called to live in relationship, reflecting the relational nature of our Triune God.

Deuteronomy reminds us that obedience is not about restriction, but about choosing life. When we understand God’s love and follow His ways, we discover that His commands lead to the most fulfilling life possible.

Thru the Bible, LESSON #9 Book of Numbers, Bad Choices, Tragic Consequences, and how Spiritual Disciplines Can Help Avoid Them

2026-04-04 by bible805

This lesson from the book of Numbers answers an important question: what does God expect of us after we become a Christian? Using Israel’s journey from Egypt to the Promised Land, we see a powerful picture of the Christian life. Though the people were delivered from slavery, they struggled to trust God in their daily lives, resulting in repeated cycles of sin, complaint, forgiveness, and consequences.

Numbers shows how small patterns of disobedience, especially grumbling and lack of trust, can grow into major failures with lasting consequences. Even though God remained faithful to His promises, the people’s refusal to trust Him led to years of wandering instead of entering the life He had prepared for them.

The lesson also introduces the importance of spiritual disciplines, better understood as spiritual habits, as a practical way to grow in trust and obedience. These habits shape our character over time so that when challenges come, our responses reflect faith rather than fear or frustration. Ultimately, this lesson reminds us that while God’s grace saves us, our growth requires intentional cooperation with Him.

Through the Bible, Lesson #8 The Backstory of Jesus in the Old Testament

2026-02-25 by bible805

The Backstory of JesusThis lesson explores how the tabernacle, sacrifices, and festivals in the Old Testament form the foundation for understanding Jesus and the rest of the Bible.

Beginning with the Road to Emmaus, we are reminded that Jesus Himself explained how Moses and the Prophets pointed to Him. The New Testament repeatedly shows that what happened in the life of Jesus was the fulfillment of promises, pictures, and patterns given centuries earlier.

The lesson emphasizes that the Bible is one unified story with one ultimate Author. When read in fragments, its unity can be missed. But when viewed as a whole, the tabernacle, sacrificial system, priesthood, and festivals reveal a coherent plan of redemption pointing forward to Christ.

Each element of Israel’s worship—the altar, laver, lampstand, showbread, veil, ark, and annual feasts—served as a picture of what Jesus would ultimately fulfill. These were not random rituals, but carefully designed illustrations of cleansing, sacrifice, fellowship, intercession, rest, and final redemption. Together they form the backstory of Jesus and deepen our understanding of His life, death, resurrection, and promised return.

Following is the podcast, video, and handouts for the lesson.

Thru the Bible, Lesson #7 The Old Testament Laws and how they apply to us today

2026-02-20 by bible805

This lesson addresses a question many people have when reading the Bible: why should we spend time reading the Old Testament laws, with their detailed rules and unfamiliar practices? The answer is both practical and essential. These laws are not outdated material to skip, but foundational teaching that helps us understand God, ourselves, and the message of salvation.

The lesson explains that the laws were given as a guide, teacher, and guardian to show God’s people how to live and to reveal what sin is. They were especially necessary because Israel came out of a pagan culture with no clear understanding of God’s standards. Through these laws, God taught His people how to live as a distinct and holy community.

We also learn that not all laws apply to us in the same way today. The moral laws remain fully relevant, while ceremonial laws were fulfilled in Jesus, and civil laws provide principles that still influence society. Understanding the historical context helps explain why certain laws were given, and typology shows how many of these laws point forward to Jesus and are fulfilled in Him.

Ultimately, this lesson reminds us that reading and understanding all of the Bible takes effort, but it is worth it. These passages deepen our understanding of God’s plan and help us live as His people today.

Thru the Bible, Lesson #6 Exodus, A new beginning for Moses, Israel, and Us

2026-02-15 by bible805

This lesson from Exodus introduces a major transition in the story of the Bible. After centuries of growth in Egypt, the people of Israel move from a place of protection into slavery, setting the stage for God’s dramatic rescue through Moses. At the same time, it marks a shift for readers as the Bible begins to include more detailed instruction on how God’s people are to live.

The lesson emphasizes that these instructions are not only for ancient Israel but are written as examples and warnings for us today. They reveal both what it means to belong to God and how to live after salvation. Through the story of Moses, we see that God calls people at unexpected times and places, prepares them in ways they may not recognize, and uses them far beyond what they imagine.

Israel’s journey out of Egypt also highlights a recurring struggle: even after witnessing God’s power, the people repeatedly respond with fear, complaint, and lack of trust. Yet God remains faithful, providing for them and teaching them how to depend on Him. This lesson reminds us that God is still calling people today, inviting us into new beginnings, deeper trust, and purposeful living.

Thru the Bible, Lesson #5, From a Person to a People Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph

2026-02-04 by bible805

PDF, Lesson #5 Person to a People DISCUSSION GUIDE From a Person to a People Thru the Bible, Lesson #5, Person to a PeopleThis lesson completes Genesis by showing how God narrowed His focus from all humanity to one family that would become the nation of Israel. It reviews Genesis as four major events (creation, the fall, the flood, Babel) followed by four major people (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph). The lesson explains that God’s focus on Israel does not mean He stopped caring about the rest of humanity, but that through Israel God would preserve His Word, model worship, and serve as witnesses so that all nations would ultimately be blessed through the coming Savior, Jesus.

The lesson also explores the relationship between God’s sovereignty and human responsibility. God’s plan of salvation is certain, like a ship with a set destination, yet individual choices still matter and shape a person’s experience and consequences along the journey.

Through the lives of the patriarchs, we see both faith and failure: Abraham’s obedience and trust, Isaac’s quiet endurance and repeated missteps, Jacob’s scheming and God’s steady covenant promises, and Joseph’s suffering that God used to preserve many lives. The lesson closes by emphasizing that God can be trusted as the captain of the journey, even when life is unsettling, and that His promises will be fulfilled in His timing.

Following, is the podcast and the video on the lesson. NOTES, and an all new DISCUSSION Guide that can also be used as a journal are below the podcast and video. Click on the cover images to download the handouts.
