The Old Testament Laws, Why read them, How to understand them, and Apply them today

2023-02-18 by bible805

The Old Testament Laws, how to read, understand, applyWhen most people get into the books of Old Testament Laws, especially in Leviticus and Numbers, with all the odd and obscure laws and regulations, they bail out.

And why shouldn’t they?

What do these laws and regulations have to do with us today?

We will answer all these questions and more in this lesson as we consider the importance of the messages in them and deal honestly with the reality that anything that is worth learning often involves challenging times to do that well.

We will then look at the topic of Typology and how the foreshadowing of lessons in the Old Testament is fulfilled in the New Testament. Plus you will get a clear explanation of the confusion between “type” and “antitype” which will help you understand this vital topic.

Below are links to a PDF of a handout that includes, notes, questions, the chart of God’s view of time, and a frameable image of Micah 6:8, the podcast, and a video of the lesson.

Genesis & Job, answers to the Big Questions of Life, part ONE—week #1 of Thru the Bible in Chronological Order

2023-01-06 by bible805

Genesis and Job, part One, week one in reading through the BibleWith this lesson, we start the adventure of reading through the Bible in Chronological Order. It begins by reading Genesis and three days into it, we jump to the book of Job.

We will talk about why we read these two books together and you’ll see how Genesis and Job lay the foundation for much of what we will read in the rest of the Bible by starting out with answers to the Big Questions of life—

  • How did the world begin?
  • Why are there troubles in this world?
  • Is this all there is or is there life after death?

God hasn’t left us alone to answer these questions and many more that trouble us in our quiet moments and worst nightmares, as we will learn in this lesson. The material on life after death is especially encouraging as you’ll see in a close analysis of a key passage in Job.

Below is a downloadable PDF of the Notes, the chart talked about in the lesson, Questions, a link to the podcast, and a video of the lesson.

2022-12-29 by bible805

I truly believe that getting to know your Bible well by reading it in Chronological Order is THE MOST important thing you can do in the coming year and every year, not only for yourself, but for those you care for in your small groups, classes, or other ministry groups.

Resources to help you learn and teach through the Bible
This article has links to everything from motivational videos to schedules and blank journal pages you can use to teaching materials to help you go through the Bible in Chronological Order in the coming year. You can freely pass on all the resources here.

However, even though I feel deeply about this and have created many resources for it, I realized I hadn’t been very clear on exactly what I’ve done, the resources I have, and how I can help you in this vital area.

The podcast and video here are descriptions of the resources I have available to help you both do it for yourself and to teach others. Almost all are free, only one at a very low cost ($36 a year for all the lessons) so think of them as one last gift of the holiday season that may make the greatest impact in your spiritual life and the lives of those you influence in the coming year.

Below the podcast and video, I’ll overview the various resources and give you links to them.

To motivate people to read their Bibles in chronological order

At the links below I have videos, podcasts, blogs, and other media with the reasons WHY you should read your Bible in Chronological Order

Many people haven’t ever considered reading it that way because that isn’t the order our Bibles are in. To help them understand the benefits of it, why they probably haven’t read their Bibles that way, and why our Bibles aren’t in that order, I have these 3 background videos. Following them is ONE newly done motivational one, that can be used by itself with parts of the previous videos included in it. CLICK on any of the thumbnails to go to the video:

Why Psalms and Proverbs are a DAILY part of our Chronological Order Bible Reading

2022-12-20 by bible805

Why Psalms and Proverbs are part of our daily Bible ReadingOn the Bible805 Bible Reading Schedule we are going through the Bible in Chronological order.

You’ll notice that along with the longer passage each day is a Psalm or a chapter in Proverbs.

In this short lesson, I’d like to take a few minutes to explain why we’re doing this. I’ll first explain how we are organizing the books of history and the prophets, and then why these books are different than the books that make up the chronological reading of the Bible, why it’s OK to put them where they are, and more than that, how reading them in this way will help you grow in your Christian life and encourage you on your journey.

This lesson is an overview of two longer lessons that go into a more detailed introduction of the books of Psalms and Proverbs, the links to them follow. Be sure to check them out.

•       Psalms: How to walk with Jesus in every part of life

•       Proverbs, a reliable GPS for a disciple of Jesus

Below is a copy of the chart, I talked about in the lesson (Click on the image to download it) and following is the podcast and video on the topic. Below them is the transcript of the lesson.

There are many schedules available for you to do that and I encourage you to make the most of any and all of them. However, the one I created for you from Bible805 is the result of much time, prayer, study, and revision from both the perspective of a Bible teacher and a trained historian. Following are a podcast, video, and a written transcript of the specific reasons why I organized the readings into the order that I did.

Yvon Prehn, www.Bible805.com

Experiencing it in Chronological Order, in the order events happened will do that.

I came up with a new schedule to do that and I can’t wait to share it with you!

If you’ve decided you want to read or listen to the Bible in Chronological, Historical order, you need to decide—
• Which schedule, what order of reading through the Bible to use?
• LOTS of them out there and they are all very good, so why should I create a new one?
• I’ve been reading through the Bible every year and teaching it.
• And from that experience there were adjustments I wanted to make to the schedules I’d tried—some big, some smaller. I’ve got a new one for you—you can download it at www.Bible805.com.
• Now I want to share why I did what I did! [Read more…]
