The name Bible 805 comes from my belief that the Bible, Jesus, and the Christian faith is as real as the place I live in (area code 805)—Ventura, California. The palm tree image here is a picture of a palm tree in my front yard.
I’m doing podcast and site for two audiences
Audience number One, for people who don’t believe in Jesus—for the many people who are perhaps spiritual people, but wouldn’t identify with any one particular faith. I want to share with you how the Christian faith is a worthy area for spiritual exploration.
I have many friends in this group and I’m not always the best at explaining what I believe in person-to-person conversation. I’ve always been better at writing and teaching to explain things. In addition, the Christian faith is somewhat complex if you take it seriously and I want to give you a complete picture of what it is all about. Also, I want to respect your will and time to explore the faith before you (I pray) would make a commitment to follow it.
To help you do that, the primary content of this site will be to go through the Bible, but there will be (more and more as time goes on) links to other areas of information about the Christian faith. There are many groups who can answer questions far better than I can and I’ll point you in their direction.
Audience number Two, for people who believe in Jesus—because believing doesn’t mean all doubts are removed or that you have any idea that Jesus is more than a way to avoid eternal suffering.
First, about the doubts—they are OK. They should serve as motivators to study, explore, and learn all you can about your faith. I believe if you do, not only will you not be disappointed, but your Christian life will be energized.
I think many Christians live in unconscious fear of what I call the “gotcha” questions. Ones like these: “Why do you say Christianity is the only way to God?” “Why is your Bible different than any other holy book?” “Aren’t all good people going to end up at the same place?” Finding answers to questions like these can be energizing and exciting. Though this is not an apologetic site primarily (one that argues for the faith), once you learn your Bible well, you’ll know the answers to the big questions and your confidence and personal peace will grow.
Second, and this is the primary reason the podcast and site are organized the way they are, is that many Christians don’t know their Bibles in any way other than having a few favorite passages when life gets tough or verses whey claim when they want something from God. Your Christian life will be so much richer and more obedient to our Lord if you KNOW the Bible—the whole Bible (which many Christians sadly have never even read cover to cover).
To help you get to know the Bible, the primary content of the site and the podcast is to go through the Bible in chronological order. If you’ve never done this before I promise it will change your life and if you have, the riches in God’s Word are so deep, I pray you will gain new insights and grow in your love and obedience as a Christ-follower. About me, Yvon Prehn
This podcast and website are my latest efforts in a lifetime of teaching and writing about my faith in Jesus. From a little kid in third grade teaching kindergarteners Bible stories with flannelgraphs, through working with youth and college groups, to teaching adult Bible classes, almost all my life I’ve taught the Bible.
I am a lay Bible teacher and historian. Though I have an MA in History, attended seminary, and have done additional graduate work in communications, I do not claim professional, theological authority. I am a pilgrim and failure-prone, but an attempting-to-grow follower of Jesus and these lessons are the result of many hours of study, reflection, and prayer. I hope they will be useful and will more than anything, inspire you to explore the Bible more and come to know personally, the Word become flesh, or as the Living Bible puts it:
And Christ became a human being and lived here on earth among us and was full of loving forgiveness and truth. John 1:14
May the grand story of creation, the preparation for Jesus, his life, death, and resurrection come alive to you as you listen and learn from Bible 805.
