Through The Bible in Chronological Order In 2019 the podcasts went through the Bible Chronologically, which means we read and I did podcasts on the Bible in the order that the events took place, which is not the order they are in the Christian Bible.

This method of study will helps understand the Bible in real history and the poetry, prophets, letters will make sense in a way they haven't before if you haven't gone through the Bible in this way.

How We Got the Old Testament, and why we can trust it as the Word of God

2022-09-18 by bible805

The Old Testament, How we got it, why we can trust itThe Old Testament makes up a large section of our Bibles, but though many people are familiar with the first part of it with the stories of Creation and the early characters in Biblical history, many people stop there.

Unfortunately also is the idea many people have of the Old Testament is that it is a collection of ancient stories and fables and not something based on true history that can be objectively verified. This idea is unfortunate because nothing could be further from the truth!

The Old Testament can be proven to be historically valid and an essential foundation for the Christian faith. This lesson will demonstrate how it was put together and the sources for it including both oral history (including such interesting facts including that Adam was still alive when Noah’s grandfather was alive—and you think your grandpa has great stories to tell!) and written texts, plus the archeological basis for it that includes a fascinating overview of Ur of the Chaldees, the birthplace of Abraham. You’ll have a very different view of what Abraham was called out of and how that influenced his life after this lesson.

This lesson is part of a series on How We Got Our Bibles. It is not only a fascinating study, filled with images, archeological discoveries and ancient stories, but included are extensive charts, maps, and notes that will give you confidence in your Bibles—that you can trust them to contain the Words of God essential for our eternal salvation and instruction on how to live lives that are pleasing to God today.

Amos, when religion isn’t enough—how God wants us to live

2022-06-13 by bible805

Amos, the prophet and the book he wroteWhat kind of religion pleases God?

•         Is going to church enough?

•         Do we need to read our Bibles every day?

•         What about taking care of the less fortunate?

•         People asked the same questions when the prophet Amos lived, and we’ll look at his answers in our lesson today.

Below is the podcast and video and below them are the notes/transcript of the lesson.

As promised in the lesson, for a list of organizations that fulfill the challenges of Amos and the commands of Matt. 25, click the following link: https://wp.me/pazrJD-qT

Intro & Overview of Old Testament Prophets, little understood, incredibly important

2022-05-25 by bible805

Intro and Overview of the Prophetic booksWe are at the place in reading through the Bible where many people either quit or are confused and make incorrect applications from their reading.

We’ve finished the books that are primarily historical narratives and are now in books that combine both historical narrative AND the messages of the prophets to the people at that time. Understanding what is going on in the history of the people and how that relates to the book of prophecy is very important. Without it, the books of prophecy either make little sense or people come up with wildly incorrect conclusions about them.

A modern-day analogy would be to imagine 2500 years from now (that is how long ago most of them wrote) if you heard Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech. If you were not familiar with the Civil Rights Movement, what was going on in the U.S. at that time, how extraordinary it was for the speech to even take place, and why he wove together Bible passages with his visions (and imagine you didn’t even know some of them came from the Christian Bible), well, obviously the speech wouldn’t make sense to you. Knowing the historical context of a speech makes all the difference in our ability to understand it.

My goal in this next series of lessons (plus your reading and a Timeline of the Prophets I put together for you) will help you understand not only the meaning and importance of what the Prophets said in their day but also how we can apply their words to our lives to live in ways that are pleasing to our Lord.

David great goodness and great sins, but always a heart in the right place

2022-05-16 by bible805

David, a man after God's own heartWhat does it mean when the Bible says…..

•       That David was a man after God’s own heart?

•       Didn’t he commit adultery and murder?

•       How can that be “after God’s own heart?”

In today’s lesson, we’ll take an in-depth look at that statement and be challenged on how our hearts can be ones that please God as we look at…..

David, great goodness and great sins, but always a heart in the right place.

Below is the podcast, video, and notes on the lesson.

Samuel & Saul The importance of listening to God & how to do it

2022-05-09 by bible805

Samuel and SaulHow’s your hearing these days?

Have you recently had someone say to you,
 “You aren’t listening to me?”

Most of us have.

Maybe we weren’t paying attention, or maybe we didn’t want to hear what we knew someone was going to say.

Whatever the reason, not listening can get us into a lot of trouble.

The trouble is especially serious if we aren’t listening to God

Before we go on in this lesson, it’s important to establish the fact that God does want us to listen to him.

Dallas Willard says:

Hearing God? A daring idea, some would say—presumptuous and even dangerous. But what if we were made for it? What if the human system simply will not function properly without it? [without listening to God] There are good reasons to think it will not. (from Hearing God).

To live for what we were made for, to help us function properly, to help us listen to God, and for some practical tips on how to do it better is what we want to learn in this lesson as the lives of Samuel and Saul show us the contrast of one life spent listening to God and one that didn’t.

Below is a podcast and then a video of the lesson and below them, the notes for it.
